In 2015, the shareholders of KMW and Nexter founded KNDS, a Franco-German strategic alliance in the land defense sector. Since then, KMW and Nexter, two of the foremost European suppliers of military land systems to many armies worldwide - are operating in a synchronized way, with production lines in France and Germany and subsidiaries all over the world.

KNDS forms a group of around 8,400 employees, with an annual turnover of 2.7 billion euro and an order backlog of around 9.7 billion euro. Its product range includes main battle tanks, armored vehicles, artillery and weapon systems, robotics, ammunition, military mobile bridges, customer services, battle management systems, training and protection solutions and a wide range of equipment.

Our Vision is to become European Leader in Land Defense

Joint programs and products, providing « best-in-class » solutions and services.

Long-lasting technical expertise, pioneering spirit and tradition, technological excellence, complementary know-how, and innovation without compromise drive us forward. We exploit this strength by exchanging subsystems and by developing joint solutions in order to serve both our domestic and export markets. KNDS’ existing product range enables various optimal combinations of complete weapon systems. In 2018 KNDS has presented the self-financed and developed European Main Battle Tank (EMBT) demonstrator.

Prime role in future Land programs to be launched in Europe at all levels.

The delivery of « best-in-class » solutions and services requires a prime role in (future) land programs. Therefore, KMW and Nexter play the main role in developing the future Main Ground Combat System (MGCS), an ambitious program to replace the Leclerc and Leopard MBTs. We have extensive experience as prime contractor and lead system integrator with a large network of local parteners and suppliers.

Footprint in the leading nations in defense in Europe.

We are actively working on consolidating the European defense industry by increasing our presence through cooperation or merger/acquisition with local partners in several European countries.

Cross-border operating model at European level fostering industrial efficiency.

We are convinced that our role as prime contractor and lead system integrator can only be executed optimally if we dispose of a certain but important degree of own industrial capacity in our key-countries. Covering our main components, this industry capacity enables us to foster our competences and excellence, to mitigate risks, to innovate, to assure agility and to guarantee agreed delivery.

The development of the KNDS Group as an integrated European land defense systems company with a joint portfolio of products and services is an ambitious vision.

In 2015 we started our Franco-German success story and today our ambition is only stronger: Shaping European Land Defense.
